In Balance Class
InBalance classes aim to:
* Improve your balance,
* Improve your strength and endurance,
* Reduce your risk of falling over.
Classes are held weekly over an 8-10 week period. Class numbers are kept low to enable the physiotherapist to provide you with individual attention. The initial class includes a brief individual session with the physiotherapist who will make some measurements of your balance. This is also your opportunity to discuss concerns or difficulties that may affect your ability to do some of the exercises. The balance measurements are repeated at the end of the classes so that your progress can be measured. Classes typically commence with exercises done in a group. These initial exercises are a "warm up", and aim to get you moving at a steady pace. Typically, they focus on balance and co-ordination. Participants then work in pairs on a variety of exercises. As the classes progress, exercises are tailored to suit your specific needs. The class usually ends with more group exercises, this time aimed at stretching the muscles worked during the class. This helps to improve flexibility, and allows your body to "cool down" slowly.
InBalance classes are suitable for you if:
* You are concerned about your risk of falling over, or
* You have already had some falls, and
* You are able to walk short distances outside without the assistance of another person.
Balance classes running each term under the guidance of Fiona Maskell.
