Functional Capacity Evaluations

Functional Capacity Evaluations

A Functional Capacity Evaluation (FCE) is a systematic process of assessing an individual’s physical capacities and functional abilities. The FCE matches human performance levels to the demands of a specific job or work activity or occupation. The FCE establishes the physical level of work an individual can perform. The FCE is useful in determining job placement, job accommodation, or return to work after injury or illness. FCEs can provide objective information regarding functional work ability in the determination of occupational disability status.

Medico-Legal Benefits

These assessments are also very beneficial in medico-legal cases to assist with objectively reporting a claimant’s capacity or incapacity to undertake their pre-injury employment and their capacity for alternative employment.

Lawyers are always looking for new ways to enhance their cases. Functional testing provides a means of presenting cases that are not reliant purely on medical assessments. These can be quite unreliable in presenting how a client maybe able to function in every day activities. The WorkHab FCE can provide objective information regarding the effect of pain, strength, endurance, sensation and other factors on an individual using a variety of different parameters collected from a comprehensive evaluation. This information can be used to answer questions posed by the specific case at hand. The WorkHab network has a number of providers who have had considerable experience in this field and could offer assistance in this field. The system has been tested in many court and administrative hearings and is becoming more popular due to its solid data collection and analysis process.
